Thank you - I hope you like the content too and that it help with your mentoring, your advocacy and with rewriting the script on ADHD, disability, reinvention, identity and maybe midlife. Tell me how you fare and I hope you get inspired (especially by my earlier pieces)

I'm sorry this is happening to you. It's heartbreaking to know my fellow late onset diagnosed ADHDer circle members is having less than feelings abt themselves because of RX company. Within hours this company has a PHD and counseling degree. They have the audacity to rule your life, mind, and feelings, thoughts. This is not ok. I hope you are getting better this week.

I'd like to mention that my insurance company case manager called me after a recent hospital admit. She basically asked what happened, do I have prescribed meds? And if I had any issues filling said meds? Can she call the pharmacy jf I experience another medicine shortage for ADHD meds. I thought why is She being so nice? I've not had my meds in almost 30 days he'll ya call the pharmacy! Lol my point is k wanted to see if you looked into a case manager with your main insurance company? Not the RX company but the medical Insurance company. If the case manager benefit is an option, I'd definitely call abt the letter you received and find out what can be done.

Hello I’m in the U.K. so I don’t need to have insurance as my meds are issues via our free public healthcare service! Thanks for sharing your experience it’s sounds so inconvenient and stressful

Hello Bonny, I apologize for the delay. There were forms giving my PCP the right to fight this for me. I've yet to hear a thing. I've been on this Rx for over 15 yrs, although under my husband's insurance coverage for the last seven years. I also have epilepsy, and understand 1 in 5 who are diagnosed with epilepsy are also diagnosed with ADHD. I appreciate your input and concern. 🥰

Thanks for this.

You don’t want to know how many times I’ve blamed myself for not being “normal enough.”

Luckily, I’ve had people around me who don’t judge — and even celebrate the differences.

The importance of that can’t be overstated.

Thanks for sharing this! Having a supportive community really makes a difference it helps to be affirmed when we feel these thoughts

I'd love to read the book! Our health insurance company contracted with a new Rx company beginning this year. The new Rx co sent me a letter stating they see no reason for me to be on an ADHD medication. I've been my Rx as well as speak with my PCP and a counselor on a regular basis. It's frustrating that a new Rx company feels the need to discount a diagnosis. Either they don't want to pay for the Rx or assume people take the medication when it's not necessary. Frustrating.

That’s horrible sorry you have to go through that. I didn’t know they had the powers to make decisions like that is there someone you can speak to, to help plead the case for why you need it or call out that the decision they made is unethical because it’s based on saving money? Hope you get it sorted the book will be out in early April ☺️

As a mother of two daughters diagnosed with ADHD in their teens - 1 hyperactive the other inattentive-I get your frustrations about the misconceptions of what ADHD is. Both are now thriving young adults thanks to many helpful people but mainly the shift in my attitude as a parent. I had to shake the cultural biases and authoritarian parenting I’d grown up with. Best wishes with your book. More ADHD voices need to be in the world.

This was so beautiful to read! Thanks for sharing I’m really glad your daughters are thriving! I always tell people that having ADHD isn’t a death sentence- they are lucky to have you! Thanks for your well wishes

If you have adhd daughters you might be interested in this piece on the transition into adulthood. It’s a wild ride and a steep learning curve, even when you have ADHD yourself.

I've done the same thing. My flight was at ten past midnight on the 6th of November, except in my head, that meant the night of the 6th into the 7th, so I missed it without even realising. I was flying from Singapore to the UK for my dad's funeral. That morning, nine hours after the flight had already left, I called my mum, who was too emotional to drive, to confirm what time the family friend was picking me up from the airport. She asked where I was, and I joked that I was "in the future."

I had to pay 500 pounds for a new ticket, and arrived with an hour to shower before the funeral procession. That was an extra special gut punch of shame.

The missed flight story is exactly what I try to explain to patients who think ADHD is just carelessness. You knew both times — morning and afternoon. The part that failed wasn't attention to the information, it was the comparison step that should have flagged the mismatch before you left. That's a working memory gap, not a character one. I've had my version of this. The ADHD tax shows up exactly where your brain's autopilot is supposed to catch the error — ours just doesn't come factory-installed.

Yep, me arriving at the cinema yesterday afternoon, having been organised and pre-booking, the ticket barcode mysteriously not working, and it turned out I'd booked tickets for the following day by mistake. Luckily there were exactly 2 seats left for me and my friend and they were willing to swap the days for us! Thank you for your relatable words and stories- best of luck with the book 😀
