I recommend not coping with it but instead to reject it entirely.
The entire premise is wrong and if you can really see that, you can uproot it wholesale and never feel that way again. That is a much better solution than trying to make yourself feel better temporarily but still agreeing with the underlying premise—then it will just come back.
I never feel guilty because:
- I don't feel I should measure up to some external standard I never agreed to
- I don't think my needs are bad or wrong
- I don't need to justify my existence or the decisions I make to take care of myself
- I know it's not bad or wrong to have capacity limits that are different than other people
- My love and understanding toward myself is unconditional
You have to make a conscious choice to change paradigms basically. I call this self-liberation but you can also think of it as undoing internalized ableism.
